QUEST is a true story, originally developed and written with Tim Moellering who was not only my teacher, my hero, and my mentor but my dearest friend. Tim found me when I was a young troubled and troublesome boy surrounded by violence. Tim took me in and helped me turn my life around. He quite literally saved me, and in many ways, I think I saved him as well. Being fans of movies, we realized we had a remarkable story to share.  And thus we set about telling that story through a screenplay. The first draft was completed in 2003. Soon after, Tim discovered he had to fight pancreatic cancer but lost the battle before a newer draft could be completed. As he died, I promised him that I would make this movie - his movie.  'Quest' is the fulfillment of that promise. Set in 1995 in Berkeley, CA, this is a movie about a child (Mills) who is barely surviving an abusive home, and who is searching for unconditional love.  When he is unsuccessful in his search, he tries to convince himself that he doesn't need it. Graffiti and tagging become both his release, family, and his safe place. Tim who becomes his coach and teacher is the only person who really sees Mills for who he is, a child causing trouble in reaction to a troubled life.  Offering Mills, the patience, and trust that he deserves, Tim has to make dire sacrifices. Yet, despite the abundance of kindness, Mills is still unable to put his faith in someone else until he learns to trust his own struggle first.
